Marine applications

Modern shipping solutions are becoming increasingly automated. To ensure centralized control and monitoring it is necessary to be able to collect data from many of the vessel's slave systems. Ethernet is now becoming the industry standard, offering simplicity and reliability of connectivity.

Westermo has an extensive line of Ethernet switches approved for marine use. All of these products have been fully tested and certified by DNV (Det Norske Veritas). The systems enable use in many marine systems such as propulsion, dynamic positioning, bridge control, alarm management and surveillance systems.

Subsea applications require total reliability in communication technology. Pulling technology from the bottom for repair is a very expensive affair. Therefore, it is imperative to use fail-safe technologies that have proven themselves in subsea applications. Westermo's products have been used successfully, for example, by FMC Technologies to extract oil and gas from the seabed.
