The global trend is clearly increasing the number of fiber optic installations for data communications. The immunity to electromagnetic interference, the ability to communicate over very long distances and the response time thus clearly capture the physical advantages of light.

Westermo developed the optical concept based on the specific requirements of the industrial market. The demanding operating circumstances of industrial applications have fine-tuned Westermo's solution to perfection over the course of several years. Westemo offers a range of unmanaged and managed switches with routing capabilities and serial interfaces, media converters and optical modems. To complete the solution, Westermo offers a full line of SFP transceivers that are compatible with all Westermo products with SFP slots.

Optical Solution

Optical solutions are typically applied in cases where metallic wiring is not adequate for the application. When data transmission over longer distances is required or in environments with strong electromagnetic interference, optical communication is the ideal solution.

Network Topologies

A wide range of fiber optic products and SFP transceivers allow you to create any topology - STP/RSTP circular topologies or super-fast FRNT protocol, star, daisy-chain or point-to-point wiring. Combined with fully managed features, this results in a simple but comprehensive solution.

Serial Connectivity

For serial communication, still very widespread, Westermo offers devices for simple and very fast RS-232/422/482 or PROFIBUS serial data transfer over optical fiber. Simple installation and connection in a ring, behind or point-to-point offers unique possibilities to connect up to 200 serial devices to a network or to restore ring communication in under 1 ms. Westermo fiber optic products are fully compatible, enabling an elegant combination of serial transmission and Ethernet.
